Nature's Medicine: The Healing Power of Awe

It is an AWEsome time to slow down in nature and up our mental and physical well-being.

In a study published January 19th in the journal Emotion, researchers found that positive emotions—especially the awe that comes with a deep connection to nature, art, or spirituality—are linked to lower levels of inflammation-producing cytokines. Dacher Keltner, UC Berkeley psychologist and a co-author of the study reported, “That awe, wonder and beauty promote healthier levels of cytokines suggests that the things we do to experience these emotions – a walk in nature, losing oneself in music, beholding art – has a direct influence upon health and life expectancy."
