A Free Online Yoga Class to Ease Into Effortlessness

Namaste Yogis and Yoginis,

I have always loved the slow of August. Somehow, more than any other time of the year, I give myself permission to put aside my list-of-things-to-do and choose experiences that allow me to connect more with friends, nature, and myself.

My yoga practice is particularly luxurious right now, like a delicious walk through nature - but traveling inwards.  In fact, I just filmed two of my favorite seasonal sequences with MyYogaWorks.com --Rooted & Radiant: a 60-minute mindful vinyasa flow, and Rooted & Relaxed: a 45-minute restoration and relaxation. And, you can enjoy them FREE all month!

These sequences, like a 'vacation', offer you time to fully experience and engage in what you are doing. They are paced to support a deeper exploration of your movement and breathing; increasing your ability to relax during activity as well as full rest. When you work in this way, there is time for insight, awe, compassion and gratitude.

Most importantly, these practice help you cultivate spaciousness and easy, while leaving you feeling more grounded and calm. This will support you well as the soon-to-come quickening pace of Autumn slides in.

I hope you take advantage of the FREE month that MyYogaWorks.com is offering to practice with me online (more details below).  And continue to check back to my blog every week in August for more fun ways to savor summers' last rays and lazy days.

Speaking of Lazy Days... did you know that August 10, is National Lazy Day? While you may not be able to take off August 10, think about declaring your own official Lazy Day sometime this month. A day without any scheduled activities, letting the day unfold naturally, timelessly. Thich Nhat Hanh's community of Plum Village observes Lazy Day once a month! Listen to Thich Nhat Hanh describe the importance of a Lazy Day here.

Thomas Moore emphasis our deep inner need for taking some time off...

It’s important to be heroic, ambitious, productive, efficient, creative, and progressive, but these qualities don’t necessarily nurture soul. The soul has different concerns, of equal value: downtime for reflection, conversation, and reverie; beauty that is captivating and pleasuring; relatedness to the environs and to people; and any animal’s rhythm of rest and activity.

On that note, I'm off for the month of August. No classes, no workshops.  See you in September!

With slow love,
Jillian

Rooted and Radiant: 60-minute slow flow practice
This one-hour practice begins with a 5-minute mediation followed by a mindful slow flow. Jillian guides you through series of standing poses for strength and stability while you simultaneously, progress through a variety of psoas, side body, chest, and shoulder openers. Mindful pauses are woven between flows to help you experience a deeper sense of presence as well as a fuller more effortless breath.  You will end with a short relaxation and finish feeling more rooted and radiant.

Rooted and Relaxed: 45 minutes restoring stretch and rest
This 45-minute practice begins with a special 20-minute sequence to designed to nourish and open the psoas, hips, pelvis, and low back.  Once tension is released in the lower body, you are guided through 25 minutes of restoratives and deep relaxation to expand your capacity for easeful complete breathing. You will finish feeling grounded, spacious and clear.  This is a lovely practice morning or night.

Try both practices together for a mini-retreat at home!
