A Little + Often = A Lot!

WORDS OF WISDOM

Big things have small beginnings.

The Sanskrit work for happiness is santosha.

Well, actually, santosha is translated more closely as contentment. And contentment is more like equanimity than our typical understanding of “happiness.”

Equanimity is the ability to stay grounded, relaxed and open to whatever is happening. It’s the freedom to be present and in the moment. It’s not wanting things to be different or suffering from the exhaustion and disappointment of trying to control and make everything ‘right.’ Not diminishing or ignoring anything, not exaggerating or exasperating. Being open to things just as they are.

Living in this state takes practice. Daily practice. It requires letting go of old habits and as well as tension in the body and mind, again and again; as this an ongoing way of showing up, not a fixed state we finally accomplish. This is what we mean when we say, "live your yoga."

The foundation for learning to live the practice, is to remember that A little, often = a lot!

The approach that has most helped me to 'live my yoga' - is remembering that 'A little, often = a lot.' Regularity and consistency are the key to bringing yoga from our mats (and cushions) into our moment to moment lives. Creating a home practice or even 5, 10, or 20 minutes a day can change your life. It has mine.

In my personal practice, I use an array of tools to wake my self up, grow more present and compassionate in small ways all day: yoga, meditation, mindfulness, relaxation, listening, journaling, walking in nature, breath work, and of course being with loved ones and my puppy!

There is no one way, or right way, to Live Your Yoga, the main thing is, however, to reorient yourself daily. April is a great time to recharge your commitment to a regular practice as it is the season of renewal - nature's reminder that we can always re-start. It's time to begin again.

To help support you throughout this season of growth, my April Yogalicious and each weekly blog, will offer with simple tools and small daily practices. Remember, even a few minutes a day, will make a big impact! See for yourself... start a journal entry today... and see how you feel by the beginning of May.
